And here’s the area at only 2 months after the gum surgery. The healing is significantly better and, again, look how much of the root surface remains covered from the original photo. To review, I placed a tooth colored filling to replicate or replace the lost ‘landmark’ that differentiates between the enamel and root surface of the tooth, giving the gum specialist a ‘target’ to place his graft afterwards. This happens to be an IDEAL result.
Now look at the area one month after the gum graft. It is healing well and just look at how much of the root has been covered! This is an exceptional result…but will it stay?
Here’s how we helped the gum specialist. I was able to use some bonding material to ‘build-up’ this lost tooth structure at the junction between the enamel and root surface. After it was obvious where this area SHOULD be the graft was completed to try and cover the root surface. Here’s the tooth after the bonding. Not a huge change but it really made the grafting procedure more predictable.
So here’s the idea. This patient had extreme recession on a number of front teeth. The gum specialist wanted a ‘landmark’ to be able to graft toward, but these teeth had long-ago lost the ‘bump’ on the tooth surface that would differentiate the enamel from the root surface. Here’s a closer look at the problem….NOW you can see what I mean by extreme recession!
This is one that’ll make a few people a little queezy, but the results were SO out of this world great I’ve just GOT to show it!!
This woman was referred to my by the periodontist with one of the most significant cases of recession I have ever seen. She was having moderate sensitivity with these teeth and needed the exposed root surfaces covered for her comfort and their long-term viability.of these teeth. Here’s a look at the patient smiling…doesn’t look too bad, right? Just wait…
